Georgia Business Force

Prospectus:

  • BENS (Business Executives for National Security) is a national, non-partisan, nonprofit organization of senior business executives applying their expertise and leadership to the national security apparatus.  The organization is highly regarded for its’ proven record of using business skills and best practices to achieve measurable, demonstrable results.  It is well qualified and staffed to help address the terrorist threats that menace our nation.
  • BENS’ President and CEO, Gen. Charles Boyd, U.S. Air Force (Retired) is a respected authority on strategic national security issues.  He served as the Executive Director of the bipartisan U.S. Commission on National Security/21st Century, known as the Hart-Rudman Commission.  This commission, well before 9/11, recognized the growing threat of terrorism and called for the nation’s security priorities to shift to the homeland.
  • The BENS Georgia Business Force is strongly endorsed by Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue and actively supported by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Secretary Michael ChertoffWorking as part of the BENS Georgia Business Force, companies are partnering with the state to help deter and respond to terrorist attacks.  This well-organized effort identifies gaps in state homeland security and makes the most effective use of business and government resources.
  • The Georgia Business Force creates operational capabilities that are best addressed through a business community-state government partnership.  Programs are ones that:

Neither the state government nor business can best do alone;

Governor Perdue and his Director of the Office of Homeland Security deem to be high priority and complementary to existing efforts of State and local authorities;

Serve as prototypes to establish other capabilities in Georgia and elsewhere.

GBF Programs:

Distribution of Pharmaceutical Stockpile.  Georgia businesses are assisting the Georgia Department of Human Resources, Division of Public Health and local government officials with temporary storage, distribution and dispensing of pharmaceutical and medical supplies.

Knowledge Management/Best Practices Portal.  The state Office of Homeland Security and Georgia businesses are building a web-based system to manage information and share best practices for preparing for and responding to terrorist attacks.

Critical Infrastructure/Key Resource Protection and Business Resource Data Base.  The Georgia Office of Homeland Security and Georgia businesses are developing a process to identify critical commercial infrastructure/key resources and a web-based inventory of business resources that can be called upon in response to terrorist attacks.

What’s in it for Business?

Increased Homeland Security in Georgia—after all, as BENS Chairman Stanley Weiss is quick to point out; Homeland Security is everyone’s business.
